The development of a brownfield site in the centre of Spalding into the Food Heritage Centre will not only improve the visual amenity of the town, it will provide vital support to small scale, local food and drink producers – a wonderful example of truly sustainable development.

Food Heritage Centre, Red Lion Street, Spalding

The concept of a Food Heritage Centre was initiated in 2002. This has resulted in the purchase of a town centre, brownfield site which will be developed to provide a multi-use building.  The new centre will house a series of small scale food and drink producers selling direct to the public together with nurtured office space.

Plans are currently being drawn up to create a building that will combine ergonomic and ecological best practice to provide flexible space for potential future users.  The Centre could provide a new outlet for existing, or new specialist food producers or retailers, combined with a restaurant, office space, Tourist Information Centre and Further and Higher Education facilities.

Project aims:

  • The regeneration of a Brownfield site in Spalding.
  • To create a purpose-built Food Heritage Centre to incorporate nurtured office space.
  • To support local businesses involved in food retailing and small scale processing.
  • To involve Further Education and Higher Education provision.
  • Secure £450k additional funding
  • 5 new businesses created
  • 30 new jobs created
  • 3000 sq m of new employment space created

"The potential facilities to be provided in the new Centre will add considerable value to the growing list of attractions in the south of the county."
