Creative Industries Workspace
Work began in January 2006 on an exciting new development to build a Creative Industries Workspace which has resulted in The Terrace, opened in October 2008 to accommodate 'creative industry' businesses with high growth potential. The building provides four floors and 2,734sq.m of floorspace to provide art studios, media offices and art/craft workshops for businesses in the creative industries sector. It includes a café/bar, exhibition/gallery, conference and meeting rooms, administration area and office services.
Tailored business support services, mentoring and advice is also being provided to encourage and optimise growth. The support services are aimed at stimulating business start ups and growth within this specialist sector. The sector is a key focus for cluster support to assist in the economic growth and diversification of the sub regional economy.
Project aims:
- The project is expected to boost the local economy through nurturing creative businesses and strengthening the enterprise culture within Lincoln
- The project is also a key element in the "ladder of provision” for the emerging Creative Industries sector in both the City and the East Midlands
- At the local level the aim is for Lincoln to become a recognised home for arts and crafts people
"The building is architectually striking and key to helping set the design context of the Cultural Quarter. But more importantly the building is extremely functional and has been very successful in attracting new and expanding businesses from the creative sector and we hope that the facility will be central to the sustainability and future growth of the sector over the coming years. "
