Monday, 24th Nov 2008 - Andrew Thurston responds to the Chancellor's measures to help SMEs

The Chancellor, Alistair Darling’s proposals to help small to medium sized business have been welcomed by Lincolnshire Enterpise, the organisation tasked with delivering real economic benefit for Lincolnshire.

Andrew Thurston, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire Enterprise, said: “Against the worsening economic backdrop, the measures outlined in the Pre-Budget Speech this afternoon will go some way to alleviate some of the pressures facing our business community and give the county a short-term fiscal boost.  However, small businesses are the life blood of our economy, and in the longterm the ‘spend now’ philosophy being promoted by the proposed VAT cuts will have to be paid for.  We therefore need a strong support base for small businesses that will encourage optimism in start-up businesses and sustain existing ones.  This is what Lincolnshire Enterprise is all about.”
